What to know before your Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treament for Hair Loss

Do not consume alcoholic beverages at least 72 hours prior to your PRP hair restoration treatment as alcohol may thin the blood and increase your risk of bruising.

Avoid anti-inflammatory and blood thinning medications & supplements for 2 weeks before your PRP hair restoration treatment. Medications and supplements such as NSAIDs like Ibuprofen (Advil®), Naproxen (Aleve®), (Aspirin®), vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Omega 3/Fish Oil, and Turmeric supplements. These all have a blood thinning effect and can increase your risk of bruising and swelling from your PRP hair treatment.

Avoid smoking 3 days prior to your PRP hair restoration treatment.

Some patients find Arnica Montana tablets helpful to take for 3-5 days before and after PRP hair restoration treatment to minimize bruising. Food containing bromelain, such as pineapple, may also help minimize bruising & swelling when consumed for 5-7 days before and after treatment.

The day before your treatment, drink extra water.

Avoid fatty foods at least 8 hours before your blood is drawn for the best quality of plasma. Fatty foods meaning saturated fats specifically.

The morning of your PRP hair restoration treatment make sure to wash your hair very thoroughly using your regular shampoo.

Do not apply any sprays, gels or any other styling products to your hair.

To avoid the chance of feeling light-headed during your treatment, be sure to have a healthy meal and drink extra fluids before your PRP hair restoration procedure.
