Dermal Filler Post-Treatment Instructions

What do avoid after your dermal filler injection

  • Avoid massaging the area treated with dermal filler for the first 72 hours.

  • For 72 hours avoid strenuous exercise after your dermal filler treatment.

  • Avoid any heat generating activities, such as hot yoga, saunas, jacuzzis, & tanning beds for 14 days

  • Limit your exposure to sun and heat and extreme cold for the first 72 hours after your dermal filler treatment.

  • Avoid smoking for at least 3 days after your dermal filler treatment.

  • Avoid Retinol, topical Vitamin A, and tretinoin for at least 7 days following your dermal filler treatment.

  • Avoid consuming alcohol and the following medications/supplements for at least 72 hours after your dermal filler treatment: Ibuprofen (Advil®), Naproxen (Aleve®), acetylsalicylic acid  (Aspirin®), vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Omega 3/Fish Oil, and Turmeric supplements. These all have a blood thinning effect and can increase your risk of bruising and swelling from your dermal filler treatment.

  • Use acetaminophen (Tylenol®) as directed on the label for discomfort after your dermal filler treatment. Avoid consuming excess amounts of salts to prevent excessive swelling.

  • It's best to sleep on your back (face up) and with your head elevated to reduce post treatment swelling.

  • To help manage post treatment swelling you may apply a cool compress for 15 minutes each hour as needed.

  • Taking Arnica Montana tablets and consuming food containing bromelain, such as pineapple, after your dermal filler treatment may reduce bruising and swelling.

  • Please do not hesitate to call our office if you have any questions or concerns regarding your Dermal Filler treatment.
