WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS?

Dermal fillers are mainly composed a of sugar molecule that occurs naturally in the body, know was hyaluronic acid. There are many different types of dermal fillers available to address different areas of the face and different concerns. Dermal fillers are a great option for reducing facial lines and restoring age related facial volume loss. 

HOW DO DERMAL FILLERS WORK?
With aging, our skin loses firmness as the result of a reduced production of hyaluronic acid, collagen, and elastin. Dermal filler injections restore volume loss, help reduce lines and wrinkles, and hydrate your skin. Once injected into your skin, dermal fillers expand by attracting water. Some fillers absorb more or less water, making them either elastic or firm, depending on the area or areas being treated. Nurse Kali will discuss the dermal filler properties required for your treatment during your consultation.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING MY DERMAL FILLER APPOINTMENT?

During your consultation, nurse Kali will review your medical history, discuss your goals, and  assess both your skin and face structure. Nurse Kali will then create a custom treatment plan  to help you reach your aesthetic goals. You will have an opportunity to ask questions and discuss concerns, Nurse Kali will also discuss treatment alternatives, possible side effects, and risks of treatment to help you make an informed decision regarding dermal fillers. Photos will be taken before and after your treatment to document your treatment results. Nurse Kali may add topical numbing to certain areas, such as your lips, to make your treatment more comfortable. Your skin will be marked for treatment and cleansed prior to injections. Your treatment can take approximately 30-90 minutes depending on the area or areas being treated. After treatment, nurse Kali will clean your skin and check for any signs of an adverse event before you leave the clinic.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER MY DERMAL FILLER APPOINTMENT?

Depending on your treatment, you can expect to see results immediately with improvement over the next 3-4 weeks. Some patients need less treatment and maintenance to maintain their appearance, while others will need multiple treatment sessions to achieve their desired result. A follow up will be scheduled after your treatment to assess your results, address concerns, touch-up if needed,  discuss skin health, and establish your long-term treatment plan.

HOW LONG DO DERMAL FILLERS LAST?

The effects of dermal fillers can be quite long lasting, especially with maintenance treatments to an area such as the chin, jawline, and cheeks, your results  may last for approximately 2 years. Single treatment areas, such as cheeks, nasolabial folds, and chin lasts 9-12 months on average. Since the lips are in a mobile area of the face, it doesn't last as long as other areas. A mini-lip filler treatment can last 3-6 months, where a full syringe of lip filler can last 6-12 months or longer depending on the filler. As with most aesthetic treatments, results are not permanent and will require maintenance injections to maintain your results.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF DERMAL FILLERS?

You may notice some tenderness, swelling and bruising at the treatment site. Side effects usually disappear in the first week after treatment. Dermal filler takes 2-4 weeks to integrate into your tissue. Nurse Kali will review all additional rare potential side effects with you during your consultation.
