PRP Hair Restoration Pre-Treatment Instructions

What to know before your Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) treament for Hair Loss

  • Do not consume alcoholic beverages at least 72 hours prior to your platelet-rich plasma treatment as alcohol may thin the blood and increase your risk of bruising.

  • Avoid anti-inflammatory and blood thinning medications & supplements for 2 weeks before your PRP hair  treatment. Medications and supplements such as NSAIDs like Ibuprofen (Advil®), Naproxen (Aleve®), acetylsalicylic acid  (Aspirin®),, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Omega 3/Fish Oil, and Turmeric supplements. These all have a blood thinning effect and can increase your risk of bruising and swelling from your platelet-rich plasma treatment.

  • Avoid smoking 3 days prior to your PRP hair treatment.

  • Some patients find Arnica Montana tablets helpful to take for 3-5 days before and after platelet-rich plasma hair treatment to minimize bruising. Food containing bromelain, such as pineapple, may also help minimize bruising & swelling when consumed for 5-7 days before and after  PRP hair treatment.

  • The day before your treatment, drink extra water.

  • Avoid fatty foods at least 8 hours before your blood is drawn for the best quality of platelet-rich plasma. Fatty foods meaning saturated fats specifically.

PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP) HAIR RESTORATION TREATMENT DAY

  • The morning of your PRP hair treatment make sure to wash your hair very thoroughly using your regular shampoo.

  • Do not apply any sprays, gels or any other styling products to your hair.

  • To avoid the chance of feeling light-headed during your treatment, be sure to have a healthy meal and drink extra fluids before your platelet-rich plasma treatment.
